The "Add Printer" utility pictured below is the method I used to connect the two devices long ago (in a Windows XP world).but it has weathered all the Win 10 updates and upgrades and still works like a charm. Unfortunately, when I enter this same name into the Add printer by name field on the new laptop and click Next, a "progress box" appears saying "Connecting to HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL 5 on BIGBLACKBOX".but a second dialog box ALSO appears asking for a Username: and Password in order to "connect to BIGBLACKBOX".Īny idea what and where those details would be? I start cursing, I reset the box once more and I do another scan of my Address range and take a stab at random Ip's. It is now a 192.168.1.111 that it got from the Cisco Router. This pisses me off but I figure to wait another 10-15 minutes and do another test page. This page declares it as 192.0.0.192 now. I print a second test page a half hour later. This waste of paper says it still is initializing. I plug this is back into the printer and hit the print test page. I am able to access the configuration of the printer server. This is about the time I started the post.Įnd up resetting the box 3-4 more times, and use a Linksys E1000 as my router. Absolute Zero, I try to plug directly into the box and change my ip address of my NIC to match so i could get into the console, also Zero Luck. I reset the Crap box and try to find the i.p. This did nothing, so I figured it was time for a good old fashioned reset. I walked up to the little crap box (Jet Direct 170x) and clicked the test page button.

I install the printer again there was absolute no tcp/ip communication.

I decided to Re-Install his printer object onto his Win 7 64 bit machine. I installed the original driver onto my laptop and printed perfectly.

I checked this problem out and it seemed to be a driver issue, I selected a different driver which worked but not to his liking.
The user complaigned he could not print to his Plotter. My added frustration did not make it go any faster though. It seems to be a combination of things that had to go wrong perfectly at the same time.
